Overview of the Department

The Department of General Medicine, ANIIMS, Sri Vijaya Puram is a fully functional clinical department operating at G B Pant Hospital with a capacity of 120 inpatient beds. In addition, the department is supported by 14 Dialysis beds and 12 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, ensuring comprehensive care for critically ill patients.

The department also runs a Day Care Chemo-Immunotherapy Unit (CITU), which is operational and provides chemotherapy and immunotherapy services for patients with cancer-related illnesses.

The Department of General Medicine is well supported by allied specialties such as TB & Chest, Dermatology, and Psychiatry, enabling a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, diagnosis, and management.

Facilities

The Department of General Medicine is supported by well-equipped laboratory services from the Pathology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry departments. Comprehensive radiology support is available with Ultrasound, CT Scan, and MRI facilities. The department works in tandem with surgical specialties to deliver holistic healthcare services.

The department handles a heavy clinical workload with 52,201 OPD patients annually and an average of 6,430 inpatient admissions per year, maintaining more than 90% bed occupancy.

  • Hemodialysis Unit: 14 beds, operational 24×7 with approximately 1,500 dialysis sittings per month, led by Dr. Bhavaniprasad S. M.
  • ICU: 12-bed intensive care unit catering to critically ill patients.
  • CITU: Dedicated Immuno-Chemotherapy Unit for centralized cancer care and uninterrupted drug supply.
  • Cardiac Diagnostics: 2D/4D Echocardiography machine for advanced cardiac evaluation.
  • ART Centre: Operational under the Department of General Medicine as per NMC guidelines.

Teaching Activities

ANIIMS has an annual intake capacity of 114 MBBS students. The Department of General Medicine actively imparts undergraduate medical education in accordance with NMC guidelines through experienced faculty members.

Regular theory classes, clinical postings, and student assessments are conducted to train future physicians. The department is also working towards introducing an E-Pharmacy system for efficient drug stock management. Additionally, ANIIMS admits 2 DNB Medicine residents per year.
