Overview of the Department
The Department of ANATOMY, ANIIMS was started in 2015 within the old AYUSH building. The department is one of the units of basic medical Sciences, under ANIIMS located in the pre-clinical block of the old AYUSH building, affiliated with Pondicherry University—activities of the department center around teaching, learning, and assessment
The department has highly qualified experienced faculties to guide students and has an air-conditioned dissection hall, histology lab, research lab, and 2 AC demonstration rooms
Since 2019, teaching, learning, and assessment have been tailored to the new competency-based medical education (CBME). The course commences with one month of foundation course where the students are exposed to 4 modules: orientation, skill, ethics, and community visits. Teaching is divided into large and small groups. Large group instructions are in the form of interactive lectures. Small group teaching includes osteology, dissection, embryology, genetics, radiology, and surface anatomy and histology labs. The Department has cold chamber storage, embalming facilities, and storing cadavers
The Department has also conducted peer assistant learning with the students taking an active role in learning. Case-based learning, objective structured practical examinations, and DOAP sessions have also been introduced as per the new curriculum. Seminars are conducted from time to time. Dissection starts with the cadaveric oath introduced as a part of AETCOM module 1.5 cadaver as our first teacher. The undergraduate teaching program has been successfully carried out from the 2015 MBBS batch to date.

Departmental Activities & Labs
Dissection Hall
Students are divided into small groups for dissection purposes under the supervision of faculty. This skill certification is documented in the student's log book. Surface marking sessions on mummified bodies are also carried out here
Museum
A well-organized Museum with a display of soft parts region-wise, embryology 3D models, and catalogs are available for reference. Students are made to visit the museum regularly.
Histology Lab
Apart from learning gross features, the students are taught microanatomy through a trinocular microscope and supplemented with charts and LED boards.
Osteology Lab
Weekly osteology classes are conducted in small groups as part of tutorials. The department has 30 sets of bones for the same.
Radiology
Students are trained in plain and contrast X-ray basics of CT, MRI, and USG.
Early Clinical Exposure
